The CIMA Companies, Inc.
Harry started his career at The CIMA Companies, Inc. in 1966. Under his leadership, the organization has grown to its stature today as one of the largest independently owned insurance and risk management firms in the nation.
He has served the community and profession through activity in the Board of Trade "Leadership Washington" program, as President of the Downtown Jaycees, and as chairman of the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers legislative committee. He is a cofounder of D.C. Special Olympics and founder of Missing Children of Greater Washington. He has served on the board of directors of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the D. C. Easter Seal Society For Disabled Children and Adults, and Columbia Hospital for Women. He founded Fairfax Barnstormers, a college preparatory baseball team.
His professional designations include Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate In Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Associate in Reinsurance (ARe), and Registered Employee Benefit Consultant (REBC).

Jim's responsibility includes overall administration of The CIMA Companies, Inc's activities. He also is one of the principal consultants for the consultation work performed by CIMA subsidiary Risk Control Services.
He began his career with CIMA as an account executive in 1973, and has worked in all CIMA departments. He has been president and chief operating officer of The CIMA Companies, Inc. since 1987.
Jim has a bachelor degree in business administration from The George Washington University, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver. He has received the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and Certified Risk Manager (CRM) professional designations.
GARY H. HURST, CIC

Gary has overall responsibility for operations of CIM, including service and development of local and national commercial insurance accounts. As part of his responsibility, he works closely with insurance company representatives to encourage the development of insurance products and rating mechanisms that meet the needs of CIMA's current and prospective clients.
He was a driving force behind the establishment and growth of Association Insurance Management and various other CIMA subsidiary operations.
Gary joined CIMA in 1980, after ten years of insurance industry experience in marketing, underwriting, policyholder service and management skills training with various national insurance companies. He has a BA degree from the University of Maryland, with a major in English and sociology, and a minor in psychology. He holds the professional designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
LAURIE S. COLEMAN

Laurie oversees all CIM's property and casualty insurance programs that are designed for group participation. There are more than a dozen programs in all, serving more than 5,000 nonprofit and for-profit organizations nationwide.
Laurie has lead responsibility for negotiating rates and enhancements with each program's underwriters. Although it is rare for Lloyds of London syndicates to cede underwriting authority, Laurie's years of experience have earned her the distinction of being one of the few brokers named with underwriting authority by Lloyds under three separate coverslips.
She and her staff at CIMA's Alexandria, VA headquarters also are responsible for maintaining first-quality service, to ensure the satisfaction of thousands of customers we never actually get to meet in person.
Before being appointed to lead CIMA's group programs, Laurie had responsibility in a number of other areas, including commercial property and casualty accounts, claims and employee benefits. She joined CIMA in 1980.
WILLIAM C. GROVES, CIC

Bill is responsible for some of CIMA's largest property and casualty accounts. He develops insurance, surety bonding and risk management programs for clients in the construction industry. Because of his knowledge and experience, CIMA is able to offer its construction clients a variety of specialized services, including wrap-up programs and loss-sensitive rating plans.
Bill's career at CIMA began in 1979, following several years as a surety underwriter for a national insurance company. He graduated with honors from the University of Maryland with a degree in business administration. He holds the professional designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
SUSAN KAHN, CIC, AAI

Susan is in charge of CIMA's commercial lines and personal lines property and casualty operations in both our Alexandria, VA and our Hanover MD offices. She also is the officer in charge of CIMA International, our division providing services to multinational risk operations in the U. S. and abroad.
Her experience here includes working with almost every type of organization in our client base. Specific areas of expertise include risk management and insurance programs for nonprofit organizations, international operations, and personal insurance for high-value exposures.
Susan received a degree in Insurance and Management from Indiana University, and holds the professional designations of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI). She joined the CIMA team in 1987.
DAVID R. BRANTLINGER

David is responsible for the overall management of CIMA's Employee Benefit Department, and serves as lead representative for our larger accounts.
He joined CIMA in 1987 as Employee Benefits Manager, following three and a half years of servicing and marketing experience with a national life and health insurer.
David has a degree in Political Science from Wittenberg University.
CHRISTINA J. BROWN

Christina has primary responsibility for all aspects of the financial operation of The CIMA Companies, Inc. Prior to joining CIMA, she worked in the finance department of a large, national trade union.
She began her career at CIMA in 1990, in our accounts receivable department. Since then, she has been involved in virtually every aspect of our accounting and finance functions. She was appointed controller in 2005, and made a vice president of CIM in 2006. She currently is continuing her accounting studies at the University of Maryland.
WILLIAM R. HENRY, JR., ABC

Director of Communication

CIMA brought Bill to the organization in 1990 as director of communication, acting on its commitment to clear, effective communications with clients. His responsibilities include writing and publishing The CIMA Letter and VIS Connections, managing the content of CIMA's Website, conducting client satisfaction surveys, planning and carrying out marketing activities, and serving as liaison to the media and the community. His articles have appeared in a number of insurance and other business publications, and he serves on the advisory board of the Insurance Media Association.
Before joining the CIMA staff, Bill was director of public affairs for the Associated General Contractors of America. Before that, he was a reporter for two daily papers in North Carolina. He has a BA degree in English from Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina, and is accredited by the International Association of Business Communicators.
JERRY LACEY

Jerry has overall responsibility for our Havre de Grace, MD office. He also has lead responsibility for large commercial accounts written through that office, and for developing new commercial and personal insurance business. Jerry has developed partnerships with several of the area's leading credit unions to market personal insurance products and services.
Jerry formed ENI Insurance Services in Havre de Grace in 1996, and was named a vice president of CIMA when ENI became part of our organization in 2006. Before the founding of ENI, Jerry was a construction safety engineer on petrochemical sites, including sites in Saudi Arabia; a loss control representative and marketing representative for a large Maryland-based insurance company; and later an officer of a large Maryland agency. He earned a degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Delgado College in New Orleans.
Jerry has been president of the Aberdeen Jaycees, president and founder of The Exchange Club of Harford County, and president of the Harford County Boys and Girls Clubs. He also volunteers as a wrestling and lacrosse coach at Aberdeen High School.
CYNTHIA S. LEWIS
Director of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs

Cindy is corporate secretary for The CIMA Companies, Inc. and its affiliated companies, with responsibility for contracts, licensing and other corporate affairs. She also manages all aspects of human resources, and oversees the organization's administrative services and facilities management.
Her career at CIMA began in 1977, when she was an administrative assistant to the founder, A. L. Jagoe. Cindy earned her associate in arts degree in business administration from Prince George's Community College.
J. RUSSELL TOWNSHEND

Russ has specialized in bonding, his entire insurance career. He advanced from bond representative to branch manager, at Fidelity & Deposit Company in Baltimore. In 1984 he joined the firm that became Brown, Schuck, Townshend & Associates, which merged with Alton Insurance Agency and is now part of The CIMA Companies, Inc.
Russ received his bachelor's degree at the University of Alabama and his law degree at the University of Baltimore. He is based in CIMA's Hanover office.
DEBORAH S. URBAN, CIC

As manager of the Management Information Services Department, Debbie has primary responsibility for the development, maintenance and improvement of all CIMA's computer-related operations.
Her first position with CIMA was in our Association Insurance Management division, in 1989. Soon after, she was selected as an account executive in our commercial property/casualty operations. In 1996, she assumed responsibility for creating and managing a separate information technology department. In 2002 she was elected vice president.
Debbie holds the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
