President and Chief Executive Officer

Gary has overall responsibility for the operations of CIMA.  He works closely with insurance company representatives to encourage the development of insurance products and rating mechanisms that meet the needs of CIMA’s current and prospective customers.   He was a driving force behind the establishment and growth of Association Insurance Management and various other CIMA operations.   Gary joined CIMA in 1980, after ten years of insurance industry experience in marketing, underwriting, policyholder service and management skills training with various national insurance companies. He has a BA degree from the University of Maryland, with a major in English and Sociology, and a minor in Psychology.

Executive Vice President

Laurie oversees all CIMA’s property and casualty insurance programs that are designed for group participation. There are more than a dozen programs in all, serving more than 5,000 nonprofit and for-profit organizations nationwide.

Laurie has lead responsibility for negotiating rates and enhancements with each program’s underwriters. Although it is rare for Lloyd’s of London syndicates to cede underwriting authority, Laurie’s years of experience have earned her the distinction of being one of the few brokers named with underwriting authority by Lloyd’s under six separate coverslips.   She and her staff at CIMA’s headquarters also are responsible for maintaining first-quality service, to ensure the satisfaction of thousands of customers we never actually get to meet in person.   Before being appointed to lead CIMA’s group programs, Laurie had responsibility in a number of other areas, including commercial property and casualty accounts, claims and employee benefits. She joined CIMA in 1980.

Senior Vice President

David is responsible for the overall management of CIMA’s Personal Lines and Employee Benefit Department, and serves as lead representative for our larger employee benefit accounts.   He joined CIMA in 1987 as Employee Benefits Manager, following three and a half years of servicing and marketing experience with a national life and health insurer.   David has a degree in Political Science from Wittenberg University.

Senior Vice President

Bill first came to CIMA in 1979.  Prior to working at CIMA, Bill was a surety underwriter with a leading insurer and subsequently worked for an independent agency specializing in the construction area.  At CIMA, Bill leads our Construction & Bonds department providing all servicing related to both property/casualty insurance and surety needs to CIMA’s construction customers and became a shareholder of CIMA as well as Senior Vice President.  He received his B.S. in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Maryland and has held the Certified Insurance Counselor designation since 1994.

Senior Vice President

Jim began his career with CIMA as an account executive in 1973, and has worked in all CIMA departments. He served as President of The CIMA Companies, Inc. from 1987 to 2016.   Jim has a bachelor degree in business administration from The George Washington University, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver. He has received the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and Certified Risk Manager (CRM) professional designations.

Vice President and Controller

Christina has primary responsibility for all aspects of the financial operation of The CIMA Companies, Inc. Prior to joining CIMA, she worked in the finance department of a large, national trade union.   She began her career at CIMA in 1990 in our accounts receivable department. Since then, she has been involved in virtually every aspect of our accounting and finance functions. She was appointed controller in 2005, and made a vice president of CIMA in 2006. She received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland.

Vice President

Kacie joined CIMA in 2007, continuing an insurance career that includes carrier experience as well as agent and broker experience, in various locations nationwide. Her specialties include workers’ compensation, nonprofit organizations, public entities, technology companies, and government contractors. She serves a number of our larger customers. Kacie is a Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude graduate of Washington State University, with a degree in Business Communications. She is pursuing both her CIC and CPCU designations.

Mary Katherine Hurst
Vice President

Mary Katherine joined CIMA in 2001.  Before joining CIMA, she had not only ten years’ experience in commercial and personal lines of insurance but also 13 years in senior management of large nonprofit organizations where she supervised staff, negotiated contracts, and secured grants. Today, Mary Katherine works on both the retail, and wholesale side of the house.  Mary Katherine handles brokered accounts and takes the lead in our property and casualty training as well as internal auditing of CIMA’s insurance practices and procedures.  Mary Katherine has a bachelor’s degree from Towson University, with a dual major in English and Psychology.

Vice President

Brent joined CIMA in 2006 as part of an acquisition of an agency he co-founded and helped manage prior to joining CIMA.  He is responsible for the overall management of our Construction, Bonds, and Integrated Solutions Department (CBI).  He also has primary responsibility for a number of individual accounts in construction, life sciences, the nonprofit sector, transportation, public entities, and government contracting.

Brent graduated Cum Laude from West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing.  He also is a graduate of the Harford County Leadership Academy, and holds the professional designation of Accredited Advisor in Insurance.

Vice President

As Vice President of the Management Information Services Department, Debbie has primary responsibility for the development, maintenance and improvement of all CIMA’s computer-related operations.

Her first position with CIMA was in our Association Insurance Management division in 1989. Soon after, she was selected as an account executive in our commercial property/casualty operations. In 1996, she assumed responsibility for creating and managing a separate information technology department. In 2002 she was elected Vice President.

Director of Corporate Affairs & Assistant Secretary

Cindy is responsible for contracts, licensing, various aspects of human resources, corporate affairs, and also serves as Assistant Secretary of the company. Her career at CIMA began in 1977, when she was an administrative assistant to the founder, A. L. Jagoe. Cindy earned her associate in arts degree in Business Administration from Prince George’s Community College.

Senior Bond Consultant

Prior to joining CIMA, Bob was the Regional Manager for one of the leading writers of surety bonds in the country.  He then helped co-found an independent agency in the Baltimore, MD area which CIMA subsequently acquired.  Bob came to CIMA in 1980 and has focused his talents on the construction industry with a heavy emphasis on surety bond business.  He received his undergraduate degree in history from Loyola College and subsequently earned his LLM from the University of Maryland Law School.
